The early classic Ford Bronco went into production in August of 1965 as the 1966 model year and became an instant hit. The Bronco was a body on frame design with a solid front and rear axle for strength and durability. They came standard with an inline 6-cylinder engine mated to a manual 3-speed transmission.

From 1966-1972, Ford Broncos came with manual steering. From 73-77, power steering was optional in the Bronco. The power steering boxes from 73-75 turned approximately 6 turns lock-to-lock and from 76-77, 4 turns lock-to-lock.
