Watkins' first contribution was made in 1926 with the building of Watkins Scholarship Hall. She designed the hall so that the girls who lived there would be able to do all of their own housework and cooking, thereby greatly reducing the cost of living, and she established a scholarship to almost completely cover the rest of the cost.
