These shales were mainly composed of quartz, carbonates and clays with a small amount of feldspar and pyrite. Illite and mixed layered clays were the main types of clay minerals. Eagle Ford shale contained lower silica content but the highest carbonate content while Floyd shale contained the highest clay content among these four shales.
