Feb 4, 2023 · THERMAL, Calif. – Many teams in the NTT IndyCar Series questioned the relevancy of having a two-day preseason test at The Thermal Club.. The team owners, drivers and engineers believed the 17-turn, 3.067-mile race course that winds and twists its way through a gated private community (about 45 minutes southeast of Palm Springs) had no relevance to any track on the 17-race schedule.

The Thermal Club broke ground in 2012. The property is 424 acres. It was quite challenging to get the zoning for the racetrack, it was a very long process. And the Thermal Club circuits were designed by Alan Wilson who has designed more than 20 race circuits.
