Midcontinent rift system

The major rift-bounding structure on the west side of the Midcontinent Rift System in Kansas is referred to as the Peace Creek Tectonic Zone (fig. 1; Berendsen and Blair, 1986). It is recognizable in the subsurface in southern Kansas, but cannot be mapped into the Salina basin, because of the paucity of available data.
