Currently fuel is going thru the pulse line with no fuel going thru the to the carburetor. Yeah that's not good. is it possible the fuel/pulse lines are reversed. Seems like you're familiar enough to not make that mistake…. But it definitely happens. You can confirm the fuel flow direction by blowing into each fuel line.

Take the piston pin and slide it into one side of the piston, push the rod up into the piston to where it lines up with the piston pin, and slip the pin through the rod into the other side of the piston.
