The establishment of NIA grew out of the necessity to raise levels of national integrity and to combat corruption more effectively in Jamaica.The Commission for the Prevention of Corruption was created following the enactment of the Corruption Prevention Act (2001). The Corruption Prevention Act (2001) came into effect on the 1st of May 2001 and the associated Regulations became effective on the 1st of January 2003.
