Marlin serial numbers 39a

I have an older model 39A, serial number 81****. Believe to have been manufactured around WWII, but would like to narrow down the year. Spent some time researching on line but could only narrow to between 1922 and 1948. Hope someone out there can help point me in the right direction.

But, Marlin did not make the Mountie until 1953. So, you may have a Model 39-A rifle that has had the barrel replaced with a Mountie barrel, forearm and magazine tube. OR.....you have a doube "A" prefix, or "AA", indicating 1965. Look closely to see if one of the "A's ...May 2, 2014 · The serial numbers were put stamped on 1 at a time. And those T ' s might be 1's. The earliest 39A that I have is a 54. I am not sure how they stamped the barrels, on the first model 39A's. Someone else may help with that. Also back to the serial number, there was never a TT prefix.

I have 2 39s and a 39A (1947). Interested in how to identify an older bolt that should not be used for hi-velocity ammo, compared with the "newer" bolts introduced in the 1930s with the Model 39s that had the HS in front of their serial number.
