Marlin serial numbers 39a. Today, I purchased a used Marlin 39A. I've seen a number of these that have on the barrel, "Golden 39A". The one I bought says, "Original Golden 39A" and is highlighted in gold. Based on the serial number, it was made in 1977. What is the significance of the difference in the two model designations and gold highlighted lettering?

I have an older model 39A, serial number 81****. Believe to have been manufactured around WWII, but would like to narrow down the year. Spent some time researching on line but could only narrow to between 1922 and 1948. Hope someone out there can help point me in the right direction.

The earliest 39A that I have is a 54. I am not sure how they stamped the barrels, on the first model 39A's. Someone else may help with that.
