Swahili (or Kiswahili as it is called when one is speaking the language) is the most widely studied indigenous language in Africa. The national language of both Kenya and Tanzania, it is spoken as a native language all along the east coast of Africa from southern Somalia in the north down through the Kenyan and Tanzanian coasts.

As mentioned before, it’s one of the easiest African languages to learn and acquire, as the pronunciation of Swahili words sounds exactly as how it is spelled out.

In this article, I will highlight different views given by students, teachers, parents, curricula developers and some other people coming from different sectors, on the role of Kiswahili in the national development Rwanda. These views were colleted when I was carrying out a research on language use in the education system of Rwanda.
