Definition / general. Chronic dermatitis characterized by localized areas of thickened, hyperkeratotic skin resulting from chronic rubbing or scratching. Absence of underlying dermatologic condition. These changes, known in conjunction as lichenification, are occasionally superimposed on other dermatoses, inflammatory and neoplastic.
