Only annoying thing is replanting. Gems sell for like 20-30 silver and the saplings can be sold for the same, so you can get like 50 silver per tree you harvest. You can plant them in Underground or Cavern, but no they are not good for making money. Mostly they are good for decoration if you want to have an underground city or town.
