Or even if you did gear it tall enough you'll still end up in the same position with burning the clutch. I'd recommend a cvt kit, works out really well for all around application.

I say that because most other karts I've seen usually have the chain sprocket on the drive side of the motor, this one has a 7" driven belt pulley on the side with the driver clutch and it's attached by a jackshaft to a chain sprocket on the opposite side.What you said above will give you a 6:1 ratio (72/12). I would also recommend a 7:1 gearing, or slightly lower like 8:1. This would mean having a 10T on the driven and a 72T on the axle.
