Fossil sponge

The word “fossil,” comes from the Latin word “fossilis,” which means “dug up.” Fossils often are found in limestone and they represent a variety of extinct marine invertebrate animal life forms, including brachiopods, bryozoans, clams, corals, crinoids, nautiloids and snails.
