The Faxon Barrel is MPI tested and Nitride coated. Bear creek barrels are parkerized. The BCA barrels do not have as nice of a finish. The Feed ramps on the cheap $72 dollar barrel are pretty rough. the heavy barrel is good, and the Faxon barrel looks really nice. It might be a lemon but it doesn’t shoot very well, about 3-4 moa with PMC ball, m118lr, and freedom munitions 168hpbt “match” ammo. It’s also very over gassed. Bingo. Faxon pencil barrels fill the needs of most shooters that are happy with minute-of-bad-guy. The only barrels that they make with decent accuracy are their much heavier profiles. Ballistic Advantage Hanson barrels are more accurate than Faxon's in general, but if you're really concerned with accuracy and can afford $20 or so more, why not ...

Jul 18, 2019 · I have a melonite-treated Faxon Pencil profile 16" mid-length 5.56 NATO chamber, 1:8. It's super light and holds 2 MOA or better with my plinking loads. I've done several bump-fire mag dumps, and when I initially put everything together, I went about 1000-1200 rounds without cleaning on purpose to test reliability.

I have no doubt that you can buy a Ballistic Advantage, Faxon, etc. barrel in .223 or other non-picky caliber and have a decent likelihood of getting a serviceable barrel. In some cases I’m sure you will even find one that shoots very well. My only experience with Ballistic Advantage was in 224 Valkyrie.The Faxon barrel is nearly half the weight of the Ballistic Advantage one (23oz vs 41oz).
