Spy27 steel and CTS BD1N offer very close performance in terms of edge retention, toughness, and ease of sharpness. However, since SPY27 is a slight iteration of S35VN steel it offers slightly better edge retention than CTS BD1N. Spyderco SPY27 is also more expensive than CTS BD1N.Either step the steel up a notch in price and get better performance or step the steel far down in price and get slightly lower performance and greatly enhanced corrosion resistance. That's why i suggest 20CV or LC200N or BD1N.
