Well, for one, don't use a compound bow for taming unless you have a mod that has metal tranq arrows (like Annunaki). Metal arrows by themselves deal no torpor. Second, use a taming calculator, tbh. If you have a very high power crossbow, but only a primitive rifle, arrows will deal more torpor and knock things out quicker. However, the bow will be far more likely to kill things, especially smaller animals or those with lower health.
