My understanding of skinwalkers is that they are dark and evil witch doctors that have no problem doing taboo things and causing suffering wherever they go. But what I hear about the Appalachian ones is that they seem very similar to a wendigo. Tall, skinny creatures that are rabid and less evil witch doctor.
